This exhibition features ten artists whose work subverts common notions of extravagance by playing with the boundaries between frill and ordinary life. The artists' materials are sourced from intimate experiences and domestic spaces. Their references range from the overlooked aspects of homes and diaries to contemplative examinations of aging, identity, labor and capitalism. The banality of these objects is transformed through embellishment and getting weird, revealing new meanings and connections. These artists demonstrate frills as a necessary mode of human processing that allows for greater appreciation and rediscovery of the familiar forms, memories, and belongings that surround us. Artists include Andrew Allison, Anna Azizzy, Anny Chen, Crystal Latimer, Dyvika Peel, Imin Yeh, Nakeya Brown, Naomi Chamber, Saige Baxter, and Sidney Mullis. -Hannah Turpin and Dave Zak, Independent Curators
